In 2013, my life changed forever when my mom passed away during Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban, Philippines.  I am a proud Waray! Growing up, I didn’t really learn how to cook Filipino food but I definitely ate it every night as my Mom and Dad would cook everyday until I moved out on my own.  After that I barely had it, only when visiting home or other family.  But after my mom’s passing, and when my son Layden was still a toddler, I felt a deep pull to reconnect with my roots and bring those flavors into our home. Cooking became a way to honor her, to keep her memory alive, and to give my son the taste of the food I grew up loving.

Over the years, adobo became Layden and my husband's favorite, and I loved making it for them. But as a busy mom balancing a full-time job, the chopping, prepping, and endless cleanup after a long day felt overwhelming, even though adobo is considered “very simple.” I started wishing for a way to make Filipino cooking both authentic and effortless.  I tried different shortcuts using seasoning packets that are on the market, but nothing tasted like home either being  too artificial tasting or very bland.  That’s when the idea came: what if I could make something that the everyday person - whether your filipino or not, a busy parent, a college student that misses home cooking, or someone who's never tried Filipino food before - can use that captures the real taste of homestyle Filipino food,  but in a way that made cooking as easy as dropping a puck into the pot?

There are also so many versions of Filipino Adobo depending on what region your family is from and no family member ever measures the ingredients!  I wanted something that would be a good solid base for people to adjust by simply adding or subtracting the amount of water and adding any additional ingredients to their liking.  I wanted people to make it feel like THEIR home in an easy way.

So all that in mind, the idea became Get Puck In™.  For those wondering, while the name is obviously referencing the actual product it also is a cheeky nod to the wonderful Filipino accent, something lighthearted that makes you smile ;)

Each puck is packed with carefully chosen spices and seasonings that recreate the flavors I grew up with, while keeping it simple for today’s busy kitchens. No chopping, no mess, just authentic Filipino flavor, ready in minutes.  This is more than food. It’s a way to carry forward my mom’s love, to keep tradition alive, and to share a part of my heritage, one puck at a time.  Filipino Flavor. Zero Labor.

Creamy, sweet, savory made easy

The Story

Just like Filipino adobo, everyone makes Filipino spaghetti a little different. I love the Jollibee version but my favorite has always been my aunt’s.

Her spaghetti was perfectly balanced. Not just sweet, but creamy from the cheeses, and salty from the hot dogs and black olives (don’t knock it till you try it). It is one of those dishes tied to family, comfort, and memories.

New year, feeling nostalgic, I wanted to recreate that feeling but faster, using what I had at home.

I started with my Get Puck In™ BBQ Puck for that built in banana ketchup sweetness, then adjusted from there. More tomato, a little fruit sweetness, and finished with cheese and milk.

It came out so close to hers.

This recipe is about reconnecting with your food memory. Adjust it and make it yours.
